ABS
General-purpose thermoplastic with good impact resistance and machinability. Ideal for prototype housings, enclosures, and consumer product parts. Easy to paint and glue.
PEEK
Premium high-performance thermoplastic. Exceptional chemical resistance, thermal stability to 250°C, and mechanical strength. Biocompatible grades for medical implants. Aerospace structural parts.
Delrin (POM)
High stiffness, well-suited dimensional stability, and low friction. Perfect for precision gears, bearings, and mechanical components. FDA-compliant grades available for food contact applications.
Nylon (PA66)
Tough, wear-resistant engineering plastic with well-suited fatigue resistance. Superior for bushings, bearings, and structural components. Moisture-absorbing — consider for wet environments.
Polycarbonate
Transparent grades for lenses, windows, and protective covers. Medical grades for surgical instrument housings and diagnostic equipment. Exceptional impact strength and optical clarity.
PTFE (Teflon)
Ultra-low friction and outstanding chemical resistance. Non-stick surface a practical choice for seals, gaskets, and sliding components. FDA-approved for food processing. Soft material — special machining techniques required.
HDPE
Cost-effective plastic with well-suited chemical resistance and FDA compliance for food contact. Good impact strength. Used for containers, cutting boards, and chemical-resistant components.
Ultem (PEI)
High-performance amorphous thermoplastic with well-suited thermal stability to 170°C. Good chemical resistance and inherent flame resistance. Medical device housings and aerospace structural components.
PVDF
High-purity fluoropolymer with well-suited chemical resistance and UV stability. Used in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing. Biocompatible grades for medical tubing and fittings.
Plastic Machining Special Considerations
Unlike metals, plastics require specialized machining approaches. Nelotiv engineers understand thermal sensitivity, material softness, and optimal cutting parameters for each thermoplastic type.
Heat Management
Sharp tooling, optimal speeds, and compressed air cooling prevent melting and deformation. Critical for PTFE and soft plastics. Plastics soften with heat.
Material Flexibility
We use specialized workholding and support strategies to maintain precision on flexible materials. Soft plastics like PTFE flex during cutting, affecting tolerances.
Stress Relief
We allow stress relief time between operations for critical dimensions. Annealing available for high-precision applications. Machining induces internal stress in plastics.
Tool Selection
Polished cutters for abrasive materials like PEEK and Ultem. Carbide and diamond tooling based on plastic hardness. Single flute O-flute cutters for soft plastics.
